Here's our ABC of good schoolwork...
In our School ABC Here you will find important information about everyday school life at the Hude-Süd primary school.
From A like “registration” to Z like “certificate” – here we answer frequently asked questions and explain the most important processes clearly and understandably.
Infectious diseases
See the Infection Protection Act leaflet.
Supervision
Starting in the third grade, the children at GS Hude-Süd take on their own supervision duties. They offer assistance in various situations and ensure that rules are followed. They never intervene physically in arguments.
Tasks for the third grades are:
• Welcome before school starts at the entrance door
• Supervision of the stairs at the beginning and end of recess (reminders not to bump into each other, to run and to walk on the correct side).
Fourth grade tasks are:
• Before the start of the lesson, please inform the bike stand that you should push your bike.
• Supervision of children during recess (ensuring compliance with rules, mediating disputes and providing assistance in the event of accidents).
Leave of absence
On very important occasions, such as special family celebrations or health spa treatments, children may be excused from classes.
One-day leave of absence is granted by the class teacher. Multiple days of leave may be granted by the school administration upon written request. Leave of absence may not be granted adjacent to school holidays.
library
Once a week, the children go to the school library with their teachers, where they have the opportunity to borrow interesting and exciting books free of charge for a week.
Computer and media education
Media education plays a key role at our school. Therefore, we teach a thoughtful and sensible approach to using various media. Children must learn to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the internet, protect themselves from its dangers, and recognize their own media influences. But they also need a book in their hands.
Information about the school’s other media equipment is available from your class teacher.
Data protection
We attach great importance to the data protection of our students and employees. This is not only because, as a school in Lower Saxony, we are bound by the Data Protection Act (NDSG) and the associated General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), but also because the handling of personal data is sensitive. All data is treated confidentially. Before school begins, we ask whether and to what extent we may collect and process our students' data. If the school collects data that goes beyond this scope, we will obtain their consent for a specific purpose. There will be no disadvantages for the children or you if they do not consent.
Parental work
What do parents do at school?
The school is now also involved in your child’s education.
YOUR CHILD IS NUMBER 1 IN SCHOOL
Therefore, it is important that the teachers and you as parents work together in a spirit of trust and cooperation. You have the right to be regularly informed. However, you also have a duty to regularly stay informed and communicate important matters with us. You can express opinions, wishes, suggestions, or even criticisms regarding school matters. Opportunities for this are available during teachers' office hours, at parent-teacher evenings and parent-teacher conference days, and through the elected parent representatives.
At the first parents' evening for the first and third grades, parent representatives and their deputies are elected for a two-year term. The parent representatives from all grades form the School Parents' Council (SER). Many parents also volunteer at our school, for example, in the support association, at sporting events, on excursions, etc.
First aid
In the event of injuries or accidents, teachers have only limited authority. They provide first aid, care for their child, and provide comfort.

Bicycle
We generally prefer your child to walk to school, especially in the first year. If you would like to send your child to school by bike, please ensure that the bike is roadworthy and that your child wears a bike helmet while riding.
Bicycles belong in the school's bicycle rack and must always be locked (insurance coverage).
Holiday dates
You can find this information on various portals on the Internet.
Further training
The team at this school regularly participates in continuing education. The training focuses are developed through the school's curriculum. Many training sessions take place in the afternoon or during school holidays. However, they sometimes also take place during school hours. In these cases, we offer emergency childcare.
forum
The Forum is essentially our school's auditorium. A large, open space with a stage and curtain, and plenty of room for spectators and guests. This is where our school forums (Christmas parties, farewells, etc.) take place, as well as parent-teacher meetings and other events.
Support Association
The Hude-Süd Primary School Friends' Association supports the school in all areas for which there is no or insufficient public funding. The association subsidizes schoolyard design, the purchase of playground and sports equipment, the school library, and much more.
Danger
A special alarm plan governs behavior in the event of danger, such as a fire. This plan is posted in the classroom and discussed with the entire class several times a year. Signs are also posted in the classroom and hallway to help students quickly find their way out of the school. Once the alarm is triggered, children should not immediately run away, but should pay attention to the teachers' instructions.
Breakfast together
All classes have breakfast together in the morning; a healthy breakfast is encouraged.
Only water is allowed in the classrooms. We don't want plastic waste in lunch boxes, nor do we want sweets. Please also see the school fruit section.
GTS
The Hude Süd primary school is an open all-day school (GTS).
At the beginning of each new school year, parents decide whether their child will participate fully, partially, or not at all in the all-day program. Changes can be reported at the half-year mark.
Monday through Wednesday, after lunch, homework support is offered. Each child completes their schoolwork first. From 2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m., there are extracurricular activities that the children themselves choose (new after each school break).
The municipality offers childcare for schoolchildren on Thursdays and Fridays.
homework
As the word suggests, this work is done at home by the children. Full-time children can do their homework in homework supervision. The tasks are intended to help the children consolidate their knowledge, apply it, and practice what was discussed in class. Sometimes, however, the children also use their homework to prepare for the next day's lessons. Teachers may also give the children in the class homework of varying difficulty and amounts. They do this to support and challenge each child individually. If the children do the work at home, avoid all distractions as much as possible and check whether your child can manage with around 10 minutes of homework time per school year. Your child will not learn anything if you do the homework for them. The teachers communicate among themselves so that the children do not have to do too much work in one afternoon. If there is too much, please write it down and we can sort it out.
The first grade students do not receive any homework until the fall break.
Homepage
On our website (www.gs-hude-sued.de), you'll find current news, concepts, and other important information about our school. We strive to keep it up-to-date—but sometimes so much happens or life moves too fast.
Under the heading School Life, you can view reports and photos of each year group.
Inclusion
In inclusive education, children with and without special needs and disabilities live and learn together. They learn about their own strengths and the strengths of others and benefit from their differences. Students requiring special educational support or with a potential disability receive individually tailored support measures. The performance requirements may differ from those of the school attended (differentiated education). For the areas of intellectual development, physical and motor development, and hearing and vision, parents still have the right to decide whether their child attends a mainstream school or a special needs school.
Itslearning
This is the name of our school's internal communication platform. It allows us to communicate and exchange information together.
Jacket gone???
All lost items are collected and stored in the red bins next to the main entrance. Feel free to come to the school to look for lost items. Once a year, the items are laid out and then handed over to the Red Cross.
communication
We talk to each other, not about each other. Please bring your concerns to the class teachers first. Only then will we contact the school administration, if necessary.
cooperation
We work closely with TV Hude and, for example, jointly fund volunteers who support our school life. We also work with the Hude Support Center. You can find further partnerships on our website.
Sick note
If your child is sick, please leave a message on the office's answering machine by 8:30 a.m. and sign your child out so we don't have to search for your child. If you don't call, it will be considered an unexcused absence. Please call 04408-1394.
Kitchen
The school kitchen is available to all students. They can bake Christmas meals there or chop vegetables for a "healthy breakfast," for example. Occasionally, a cooking club is held there, and the children in the all-day school also use it.
lice
Please check your children's heads regularly. If your child has an acute infestation, they will not be allowed to attend school. Treatment is required. Lice tend to live on the back of the head or behind the ears. Not everyone experiences itching. If your child has head lice, please inform the school immediately. Your pediatrician can prescribe a treatment. These are also available over the counter. It's important to remember that follow-up treatments are always required. Lice infestation has nothing to do with poor hygiene. It can affect anyone—even multiple times.
See leaflet “Head lice – what now?” from the health department – see appendix
Mission statement
The school has a mission statement, which articulates our values.
• We want to provide space in the classroom for diverse teaching and learning methods.
• We want to support our students on their path to becoming independent and self-confident people.
• We attach great importance to strengthening the social skills of our students so that peaceful coexistence is possible.
• We want to awaken and promote the joy of learning and creativity
• We (parents, students, teachers and educational staff) want to interact with each other in a value-oriented manner (careful, understanding, friendly, polite, helpful, open).
• We all want to strengthen the school community through close cooperation.
• We want to encourage and challenge all students individually according to their abilities and talents.
• We want to create the conditions for our students to accept and implement the learning opportunities offered by the school with joy and interest.
material
The material lists will be issued at the end of the current school year.
cafeteria
Our music room is located next to the auditorium and can be opened for larger school events (the yellow wall is retractable). The music room is equipped with numerous Orff instruments, several guitars, and a piano. Music lessons are held here in the mornings, and in the afternoons the music room is also open to the all-day school.
New projects
We always have many ideas and visions... We implement them step by step as part of a year-long plan, which always begins at the beginning of each school year. Some ideas are then implemented by the end of the school year, for example, the idea for this information folder. Other visions and projects require more time and are understood as a process, for example, greater individualization, successful inclusion, increased student participation, etc.
At our school, the children are involved in the development and implementation of ideas through the student council, and parents are involved through working groups. For larger projects, the general council and the school board ultimately decide on implementation.
Order
Of course, this is also a top priority at our school. We have developed golden rules for this. They are binding for all children, teachers, and parents, and are discussed by the teachers with the children.
Golden rules
We treat each other with respect and speak to each other in a friendly manner.
We resolve disputes through discussion and remain fair.
We keep our school tidy and clean, especially the restrooms.
We always move around the school building and on school grounds in such a way that we do not injure ourselves or others.
“Stop” means “stop”
Break times
Our school has two long breaks. The first is from 9:45 to 10:15 a.m., and the second is from 11:50 to 12:05 p.m. During the long breaks, children can borrow play equipment using their playcards.
Nonsense
Let’s do that too…
Smoking and alcohol ban
Smoking and alcohol consumption are prohibited on the entire grounds of Hude-Süd Elementary School. We ask you to respect this rule.
Student Council
The Student Council is comprised of class representatives from each class. It is led by two teachers and meets approximately once a month, if possible. The Student Council represents the interests of the student community and enables students to have a say, participate in decision-making, and help shape everyday school life.
Bad weather, what now?
"Class cancellations due to extreme weather" are managed centrally and announced via Radio Bremen or NDR2. Class cancellations can affect the entire district or individual school types. We always offer emergency childcare. Information is also available here.
It's your decision whether to keep your child home during extremely bad weather. Please let us know your decision by phone.
School Parents' Council
The school parents' council consists of class representatives and meets two to three times a year. Opinions, requests, suggestions, and criticisms regarding school matters are discussed and expressed. Representatives are elected for the general council, the school board, and the subject-specific councils.
Parental involvement is important to us and we look forward to a good and trusting collaboration.
School fruit
We participate in the Lower Saxony School Fruit Program. The goal is to inspire children to eat a balanced diet—preferably fresh and seasonal. The children learn about the diverse range of fruits and vegetables and learn where their food comes from and how it is grown. Through regular extra portions of fruit and vegetables and the accompanying educational measures, we aim to develop the children's knowledge and skills, encourage experimentation, and thus make an important contribution to the development of healthy eating habits. Our "School Fruit Program," with its free delivery of fruit and vegetables, is available three days a week (Wednesday to Friday). This applies to all weeks with five school days.
School association
We work closely with the Huder School and the GAG, Oldenburg.
Swimming lessons
Swimming lessons take place in the second year and the first semester of the third year. Further information will be provided in due course.
Play equipment rental
During almost every long break, children can borrow play equipment such as balls, ropes, shovels, etc. using their rental card.
The playground equipment is managed by the 4th grade students.
Sponsorship
We are happy to take advantage of this if it benefits the children. The Ingrid Schoof Foundation regularly supports us as part of our sports-friendly school program.
Sports-friendly school
We have been doing this for several years. We integrate exercise breaks into our lessons, offer active breaks, and offer at least one sports activity every afternoon.
Dates
will be announced by the class teacher via letter to parents or Itslearning.
Animals
There are various school animals living at our school.

Environmental protection
This is very important to us. We focus on this in our school program work.
Transfer
Years 2 and 3 are so-called promotion years, which means that your child will be promoted to the next higher year or will repeat the school year based on their performance.
Year 1 can only be repeated at the parents' voluntary request and in consultation with the teachers. Year 4 can only be repeated in a few exceptional cases (e.g., in the case of a prolonged illness of the child). Your child will advance to the next school year.
Insurance
All children are insured on their direct route to school, even when traveling to school events, class trips, or field trips. In the event of an accident or other damage, the school must be notified immediately, which will then initiate the necessary insurance-related proceedings.
In the event of an accident at school, please consult an accident doctor or the emergency room at the hospital.
Water dispenser
Your child can tap fresh mineral water on the ground floor.
Competitions
The children can participate in annual competitions, such as the Math Olympiad for third and fourth graders. There's a Volksbank painting competition for all ages. The Hude elementary school soccer tournament takes place annually.
xylophones,
Rattles, triangles, etc. are among the Orff instruments and, along with the piano, are part of the equipment in our music room.

Testimonials
In the first year, students receive their first report card at the end of the school year. Starting in the second year, they receive mid-year and year-end reports.
On the days when the report cards are issued, classes always end after the third period.
